The local authority is currently made up of the Lady Mayor and the Councillors, who represent the 2 political parties – PSOE (The Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party) and PP (The Popular Party) – all of whom constitute the full council.
The Councillors with the majority vote in Guardamar for the period 2007 – 2011 are the PSOE partyand they form the governing team, led by the Lady Mayor, Marylène Albentosa Ruso.
Meetings are held in the Council Chambers of the Town Hall and this is the venue for all relevant discussions and voting procedures on issues and policies in relation to the people of Guardamar.
In all of the Council sessions, the Lady Mayor announces the agenda and matters for discussion which are displayed on the Council Notice Boards, 2 days prior to the meeting.
The Council sessions can be Ordinary meetings, Extraordinary or Special/Emergency or Urgent meetings.
- Ordinary Meetings: These meetings are called by the Lady Mayor. The full council session meets on the second last Friday of each month at 10 a.m. and again, 2 days later at the same time. The Lady Mayor and the spokespersons of the political groups can, if they so wish, and for justifiable reasons – bring forward dates and times, delay them and even cancel them – should they fall on a date which does not coincide with the council cycle of meetings.
- Extraordinary meetings: These meetings are called by the Lady Mayor – or at the request of at least a quarter of the Council membership
- Special/Emergency or Urgent meetings: These meetings are called by the Lady Mayor but must de ratified by the Full Council.
One week later, following the Full Council meeting, all decisions taken and agreed upon are published and posted for public consumption on the Council Notice Boards.
