The Social Services Department is available to everyone, especially to those with special needs. Our greatest concern is the welfare of those residents or groups of people who are in difficult financial situations, have health or mental health related difficulties or other issues which adversely affect their daily lives and where their basic needs are not being met. We must not forget the special care and attention of our elderly resident population, who through their years of hard work and efforts, have contributed to the social care system that we enjoy today. They deserve special attention in relation to health, leisure, culture, sport and any other service that they feel they might need. We want to promote both individual and group development , creating a path for integration where participation can help in the search for additional support and resources and where the urgent and most basic needs can be prioritised. These needs are covered by multi-agency teams who carry out the work of the Social Services Department. The activities that are being developed to meet our agreed goals are: changes and improvements to the local senior citizens' centre, making it more comfortable and adequate for their needs, the setting up of a telephone "help-line" for older people and the creation of a computer and technology facility for them. We also want to get involved in providing a welcome facility for children from Third World countries, the promotion of awareness and integration campaigns about our immigrant communities, conferences and lectures from time to time on preventative health and welfare issues such as drug dependency, nutrition and health, relationships and sexuality. We want to improve issues for women such as access to training and employment, health and other services, offering constant monitoring via a trained team of specialists including social workers, outreach workers, doctors, legal advice services etc. Ana Martínez |

Miembros de Adimar, la Asociación de Discapacitados de Guardamar, han mantenido esta mañana una reunión con la Alcaldesa de Guardamar, Marylène Albentosa, para solicitar su mediación ante la Generalitat Valenciana, al objeto de crear un Centro Ocupacional para Discapacitados en Guardamar. |

Integrantes del Hogar del Pensionista de Guardamar con su Presidenta Maruja García al frente, se han reunido hoy con la Alcaldesa de la localidad, Marylène Albentosa para abordar diversas mejoras en las instalaciones del Hogar situado en los bajos del Ayuntamiento. Se trata de tareas de mantenimiento como repintado y pequeñas reparaciones en puertas y mobiliario. También han pedido a la Alcaldesa, su mediación para que técnicos de la localidad solventen cuanto antes los problemas con la televisión, que sufren a raíz de la reciente implantación de la Televisión Digital Terrestre. 
Conmemorando la muerte de Mahatma Gandhi, desde 1964 cada 30 de enero se celebra el Día Escolar de la No Violencia y la Paz. Alumnos y profesores de todos los centros educativos de Guardamar: Instituto, Escuela de Adultos, Colegios de Primaria y Escuela Infantil portando una indumentaria blanca, se han dado cita en la Plaza de la Constitución para dejar constancia de que valores como la tolerancia, la solidaridad, el respeto a los derechos humanos y la paz forman parte de su ideario.
