Education in Spain is compulsory from 6 – 16 years of age. Pre school education is also offered to children 3- 6 years and nursery education to children from 4 months to 3 years in the local Nursery School ‘L’Escoleta’.
Registration for school in Guardamar is quite straightforward, although you will need to have the relevant paperwork and documentation in place – and up to date. Registration can depend on where you live and, of course, the school’s capacity. The registration process for the Nursery School ‘ L’Escoleta’ is dealt with by the Town Hall.
Schools differ depending on the children’s ages and according to the Valencian Community Education system – in which education is offered not only in Spanish but also in Valencian as it is the other official language of the Valencian Community – and in English which forms part of the teaching curriculum.
All schools in Guardamar have a number of foreign pupils and the schools are keen that new students integrate fully into the academic curriculum. There are also additional support structures in place – although most of the dialogue – and parent’s meetings - are held in Spanish. Consequently, if you need to attend these meetings, you are advised to bring someone along who can assist you.
